Safety is the single most important part of shooting or even just handling a firearm!
1. Treat ALL GUNS as if they are ALWAYS LOADED.
All guns are always loaded! Always make certain the magazine is removed, the action or cylinder is open, and the chamber/s are empty before handing any firearm to someone else.
2. DO NOT POINT the gun at anything that you do not want to shoot.
The most obvious safety rule of all is never point any gun that does not have the action locked open or the cylinder open at anything you don't intend to shoot. What if the gun isn't loaded? Refer to rule number one.
3. KEEP your FINGER OFF the TRIGGER until you are aimed at the target and ready to fire.
Keeping your finger off and away from the trigger at all times will further insure that you never accidentally fire a gun until you are aimed and ready to fire at your target.
4.BE SURE OF your TARGET, WHAT'S IN LINE WITH IT and WHAT'S BEHIND IT.
(Be sure that no unintentional people, animals, buildings or vehicles are behind your target or may drift into your line of fire. When recreational shooting, be certain that there is a very steep bullet proof backstop to catch your stray bullets and keep them from going somewhere not intended. If shooting against a hill, it must be very steep. Bullets will skip over a shallow hill and may hit someone at the top of the hill or even graze over the hill to the other side.)
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR FIRED BULLETS UNTIL THEY STOP MOVING!
