Snap Caps are made of solid anodized aluminum and have a core of impact absorbing rubber where the primer would be in a live cartridge. These little babies were designed and intended for the use of dry firing in firearms without harming the firing pins. That's very thoughtful and they have a legitimate use in older style firearms that still have fixed firing pins. Most of us know now that most modern firearms have floating firing pins and do not suffer much from the metal to metal impact of dry firing.

What these dummy cartridges are really good for are training. If a shooter has a problem with trigger jerking or wrist breaking movement during shooting, he or she may not see what happens because when he fires, he blinks. An instructor can indiscriminately and out of sight of the shooter, load some Snap Caps along with live rounds into the firearm so that when the shooter dry fires, he can see for himself the habit of errors in his grip, trigger finger or stance.
